From the supplier: A Long-eared Owl (Asio otus) was observed at its nest in Burke County, ND, ingesting feces freshly excreted by its young, a behavior that has not been reported previously for the species. Predator-avoidance strategy, maintaining nest hygiene and simply obtaining nutrients from the feces are some of the hypotheses that can be forwarded to explain the phenomenon and can be the subject of future investigations.
